Who Can Go
Any athlete competing in any sport at any skill level may apply to come on the trip. Please note, due to immigration rules in many countries, you must be 14 years of age or older (on the day of departure) to come on the trip. The maximum age of trip participants is 18 years old. We kindly ask that parents/families do not 'shadow' our trip. This meant for this age group specifically, and we do not wish to detract from the experience of all those on the sport4one Elite Trip.
Rules
There are some basic rules while on the trip. Absolutely, no alcohol or drugs (expect prescription). If a member of the trip (including trip leaders) is found to be under the influence of drugs, or has consumed alcohol, he or she will be sent home immediately, at his/her own cost. If a trip participant is found to have consumed any amount of alcohol or any amount of drugs (regardless of quantity), a trip leader will accompany the participant(s) to the nearest international airport, and ensure the individual gets on the next flight to Canada (all flights connect through the USA before flying onwards to Canada). There is a zero tolerance on the alcohol and drug policy. All Okanagan Elite Athlete trip leaders and volunteers are held to the same standard - however, as we like to have a low leader to participant ratio, any trip leader/volunteer will receive severe consequences when we return to Canada. Okanagan Elite Athlete does not accept 'it was an accident' or 'I didn't know' or 'I only had a sip' as a valid excuse.
Male and female trip participants will sleep in separate rooms. Trip leaders/volunteers and trip participants will sleep in separate rooms. If a male and female are found to be in the same room, both will immediately be put on the next flight to Canada, at the full cost to the participant's family. There is zero tolerance. The only exception is for siblings/cousins/family.
In order to fully reserve your seat on the sport4one Elite Trip, you must have your passport with you, a minimum of one month before departures day (on or before June 30, 2016). If you have not brought the real, paper copy of your passport to Okanagan Elite Athlete before this date, you will lose your seat on the trip and all the registration fees and program costs.
Before, and during the trip, any behaviours, or choices that put the safety and/or integrity of the group at harm, will result in the individual immediately be asked to leave the trip. Okanagan Elite Athlete does not and will not tolerate any behaviours that will put the safety of the participants, leaders, volunteers, the trip as a whole, sport4one, or Okanagan Elite Athlete in harm's way, or jeopardizes the integrity of any of the individuals or organizations. This may include things such as, but is not limited to: saying the word 'bomb' or 'highjack' in an airport or airplane; taking photos of a building/bridge/individual/etc after being told/asked not to; disrespecting our hosts; disrespecting Brazil's, Latin America's, and/or South America's culture, foods, languages, customs, history, education, peoples, traditions, sports, etc; intentionally breaking the law; disrespecting other trip participant's or leader's space and/or person; stealing; lying; or anything that is not considered reasonable behaviour that may result in sanctions from another country's government, police, army, or authorities.
Safety
The trip will be led by some of Okanagan Elite Athlete's in-house travel experts. Before departures, the trip is planned by our Community Relations, Sport Education, and sport4one teams. However, our Global Marketing Manager will be the senior trip leader while in South America. He has traveled to four continents, nearly 30 countries, and over 100 cities around the world. Still to be confirmed, the President of Okanagan Elite Athlete may also be on a portion of the trip depending on other Okanagan Elite Athlete events.
We work directly with friends, family, colleagues, and partners in South America and around the world to ensure all details are taken care of before departing on the sport4one Elite Trip. We also work with the Government of Canada and Canada's Embassy in Brazil, while on the trip, to ensure if the need arises, we are immediately brought to safety. This being said, during the 2016 Olympic Games, Brazil will likely be one of the safest locations on Earth due to extremely tight security to protect all the dignitaries, athletes, coaches, officials, visitors, and fans. We have intentionally planned the trip to ensure we are always near modern and clean medical facilities in case a member on the trip becomes ill.
