Press release | One of BC's Top Basketball Players Educates Youngsters
Armstrong, BC | From July 2-11, basketball players entering grades 7-10 of both genders will get a basketball education in Kelowna, BC.
As a Summer Jam Basketball camper, students of the sport of basketball will get an education in the fundamental skills of basketball, team play and team work, and the technical aspects of basketball. Goodwin will be joined by some of Kelowna's best basketball products as the camp coaches.
"I am very excited to be joined by some of the Okanagan's top basketball products over the past few years," says Goodwin.
Braxston Bunce was named the 2012 British Columbia Male High School Player of the Year. He is currently a member of the Ivey League's Cornell University Men's Basketball Team. He was a member of the National Junior Men's Basketball Team in 2011 and 2012.
Landry Ndayitwayeko is a co-captain of the UBC Okanagan Heat men's basketball team. A defensive specialist, Landry joined the Heat this year, transferring from Lakeland College in Alberta.
"It's great to have Landry join our coaching staff," says Goodwin. "Today, the first thing a basketball player is asked after the game is, How many points did you score? Having Landry on the coaching staff will show basketball players the importance of defence, and how basketball is more than scoring 20 points per game."
Something a little unique about Summer Jam Basketball Camp is that parents are encouraged to stay and watch the game, if their schedule allows.
"We encourage parents to stay for the morning/afternoon and watch the camp, too," explains Goodwin. "We try to teach the students of the game who study sport under Okanagan Elite Athlete that education on and off the court are vital to success. Parents play a huge part in this education, and should be part of the process."
Summer Jam Basketball campers get a t-shirt and chance to win daily prizes.
"We also hope campers leave with a re-ignited passion for basketball and sport," concludes Goodwin.
